Projects : garden
Spanish Fort, AL
This three-story apartment community in Spanish Fort, Alabama attempts to break out of the mold of traditional garden apartment design. The client, known for his successful mixed-use, modern, high-density developments, wanted something more than the standard suburban garden fare.
The design solution was to move away from the traditional design approach by seeking to simplify and clarify the building forms. Elements such as stacked balconies were treated more clearly and rationally as additive or deductive elements. Breezeways were treated like ‘reveals’ and were used to separate main masses and to clarify building form. Roofs were kept simple to provide clean lines. The result is a fresh, attractive and honest approach to this traditional building type.
